DeepSight
What They Do
DeepSight is commercializing Whispering Gallery Mode (WGM) micro-resonators as a fundamentally new approach to diagnostic ultrasound. Whereas traditional ultrasound devices emit and detect sonic signals using piezoelectric transducers, WGM sensors detect resonant frequency shifts in micro-fabricated structures using light. This technology enables an order of magnitude improvement on existing medical ultrasound, promising greater resolution and imaging depth.
Why We Invested
Imaging with ultrasound is a powerful diagnostic and interventional tool in medicine, but is today limited by the resolution and depth that it can achieve. DeepSight’s unique technology, developed at Wash U. in St. Louis, pushes the boundaries of ultrasound, improving performance of existing ultrasound procedures and opening up many novel applications. In particular, we are excited about the potential to miniaturize interventional imaging.
DeepSight’s outstanding team brings together experts in ultrasound, semiconductor fabrication, and medical devices. We believe they are poised to revolutionize the field.
